▸ Due to last night's storms, a quarter of Blackwell is still without power. It seems a tree has fallen on a power line, which will be promptly inspected by BWI and fixed ASAP.

▸ The worst of that storm is now over, thank god. Weather reports cloudy days from here on out.

▸ Fairweather and Winters kids are still missing. Local authorities and volunteers are resuming their search in the immediate area. Please, if you have the time, go join the cause.

▸ In a sad turn of events, the remains of Kara Samson have been returned to the family not a week ago. Details surrounding her disappearance and cause of death have not yet been released.

▸ Rumors say that the county morgue outside of Elkins was broken into early this morning, but officials decline to comment on the matter.

[he is not of the right mindset to be thankful for anything along those lines these days which is probably evident by the fact that he's even here in the first place]

[he only turns at the insistent throat clear when he's already come up with the keys. kipp needs to fucking clean his desk, it is a disaster. well, it is now moreso. sorry. moves a cup back to where it was like it'll make up for the disturbed paperwork everywhere.]

I'm not a Mis, that's my mother. [ she corrects with a partial smile, but it's gone as her gaze follows his hand to his pocket and piques an eyebrow up curiously. ]

And what are we getting into today? [ we, because she's not going to just turn a blind eye. she figures whatever he's doing, there in the office he's all but been banned from, has all to do with his daughter. ]

[rather than answer he passes her by, inclining his head to invite her to follow and makes his way back to the evidence lockup. he would rather not stand around in the open inviting more hurdles to jump discussing the matter, if he were even predisposed to discuss it in the first place]

You said you had the list? [turns to glance back at her over his shoulder as he leans into the little office to make sure the security post is abandoned. well, he's not the only one that's shitty at his job around here.]

[ she follows him, not bothering a second glance around. three days and she's rarely ever seen anyone here before 10. most are already out helping with the search or on patrols. upon the glance back she lifts the folder up slightly before tucking it back again, holding it to her chest better now as to not lose any of the contents of either case folder she's compiled. ]

Good. [a pause and then like he forgot] Thanks. [he holds a hand back for it as he jiggles the key in the cage lock with the other. it's been stuck for years now and no one's fixed it- you have to know how to coerce it open even with the key.]

[ she doesn't budge, she'll give it to him when he's not trying to do three things at once. ]

How about you answer my question first.

[she left him hangin. leans in past the chainlink gate to take up a set of keys off a hook and holds them up for her to see, as though this is an explanation]

Surveillance room. The boys started keeping them in here when it's unmanned after they got snatched right off security's belt a few years back. There was an incident.

[more accurately described as a "kerfuffle". as you can see security is really tight around here]

[ like the goddamn pentagon, she's sure. ]

The morgue? [ like it needs confirming to her, but it doesn't. she's solved the case. ace detective. move out of the way ben ]

[makes a noise in the affirmative and locks the gate back up behind himself, now facing her holds his hand out expectantly. gimme the goods or i'll call you miss again]

Gonna check it out. [he's sure they would have called if they'd found anything but they have their hands full and they could have missed something and insert any other excuse to get his hands in it personally instead of waiting for someone else to do it]

[ shoves it in his hand as she's been expected to and moves aside to let him lead the way. she hasn't taken the opportunity to fill out the map of this station yet, and she's not about to sit out on this. ]

I'd be disappointed if you weren't.

In which case I'd invite you to take a number. [gives her a look as he passes that is wholly accustomed to being the butt of disappointment. don't cut line in front of his wife she has dibs on the #1 spot.]

I can take it from here. [he doesn't anticipate her being along for the ride after passing the names off, as she has no personal stake in it anymore- not her department, after all]

[ she never had a personal stake in it. she's not oliver. presses her lips together and watches him go. little hum of discontent but she'll deal with it. she has work to occupy herself with, anyway. ]
