▸ In a sad turn of events during last night's activities, local teenager Bela Gage was found dead at Gainsbourg Resort as festivities were wrapping up. Local authorities have opened up an investigation regarding the circumstances around her death.

▸ Several houses were egged in height of last night's events. Locals are offering a small reward to anyone with information that may lead to identification of the culprits.

▸ Now for the weather, expect light showers from late morning to mid afternoon. Blackwell is expecting the storm to keep rolling through overnight, so drive safe!

[ he really feels bad for joking about mistaking the girl for a boy now. my b.... ]

[ watches mr. asshole at work. yeah it makes him such a good person, to do his job as he's supposed to. right!! waits until Oliver's done talking before nodding at him as a greeting. ]

Whose car was it?

[avers]

[ who said anything about it making him a good person. nobody would say that. not even jesus. jesus would be like "lol, nope" and heelturn to the opposite direction.

he's pushing a bright yellow hard candy in his mouth when ben approaches. he crinkles the wrapping paper between his fingers, rolling it back and forth with a thoughtful look. for a moment, it looks like he's not going to answer it but then he slowly turns his head to him ]

Bernard's, but he ain't top on the suspect list. [ he rolls the candy in his mouth and looks up and down to him. judging. ] Shouldn't you be back in Elkins?

[eternalboy]

[ oh the MAN BABY. speaking of men, he takes the judging like a man. that's the best you got? he doesn't appear to mind. ]

In like [ digs out his smartphone. it's shiny and new. ] 45 minutes, yeah. I just wondered who might need a lift.

[ puts the phone away again and rearranges the motorcycle helmet under his arm so he doesn't drop it. ]

But if it was Bernard's I doubt he needs one. It looked like he might need some sleep today.

[ babies throwing up is never a nice sight. ]

[avers]

[ bernard will most likely go to work because dennington senior, the current county sheriff, is as much of a hardass as oliver is. oliver scratches his moustache slowly, then smooths his fingers over it and down his beard, watching the team still working on the perimeter. there's police tape everywhere and it doesn't help that it's raining lightly. it always screws up evidence.

he seems to remember something and spits out the hard candy (he always does, doesn't like crunching them) ]

The Samson's girl, y'know 'bout her? Look into her case while I'm workin' this one.

[ watches the candy bob on the pavement. he seems briefly distracted by it, wondering why Oliver spat it out, but then looks up. ]

The suicide? That's not really my area.

[ he has nothing against having a case of his own but it doesn't really work if it's not even a missing person. then again they might be missing Adam and Adrian might leave now that the girl was found unless she's looking into the other cases too. ]

What does lookin' into it entail?

[ might have imitated his way of speaking just there. just a lil. ]

[avers]

I reckon there's more to it. That don't look like nuna' suicides I sawed [ hillbilly for "have seen" ] before.

[ usually he doesn't provide justification for his orders, but he's a little distracted with his attention mostly set on working on bela's case. he's still staring at the police tape. finally, he seems to snap out of it and turn to ben, pulling the collar of his longcoat up. the rain bothers him more now. ]

If I knew I wouldn't be needin' you to be doin' it, ain't it so? [ as if saying the only reason he's asking him to do it it's because he hasn't had the time to do it himself yet ]

[ that's real motivation right there. he really feels like doing this now. ]

You'll do me a favor in return?

[ just so we're clear here. it is a favor. of course transferred (and new) cops aren't in the position to choose their tasks but Ben likes to think so. pushes up his chin a little. ]

[avers]

[ he's reaching for his inner pocket to get his cigarettes, but he stops and sloowwlllyy looks up to ben. there's a tense moment of silence and olly goes back to his cigarettes. he grabs the pall mall pack, pops the case open, smacks it against his hand so that one cigarette slides out and takes it between his teeth, before putting it back in his pocket. ]

No. [ he flicks the hood of his zippo lighter open and lights his cigarette, taking a drag ] Do your fuckin' job done, rookie.

[ color me surprised. he gives the response a cheeky look like things hadn't been settled yet. he's gonna bargain. he's got 45 minutes. it's how he has gotten this far, by being an annoying shit. ]

You're gonna do the interviews for this case yourself?

[avers]

[ he can bargain all he wants, olly isn't going to budge. ]

Some of them. I ain't the only homicides investigator on this case. [ unfortunately, he seems to say. because nobody is as good as him, of course. not that he doesn't welcome their help because realistically, he can't quite handle all of the details of the work, he just wishes the help he would get came from... well, possibly his own clones. alas. ]

[ more Olivers. just what the world needs. ]

Yeah, well, when you or one of your little helpers [ he caught the tone he used. ] go to have a word with Bela's best friend, Hailey, you might want to take it easy. That's all I'm asking.

[ he hasn't seen Oliver interact with a lot of people yet but he can already imagine how he treats suspects and witnesses. Ben might not be the most sensitive guy around but even he knows that the last thing his niece needs right now is to be scared to death by this big mr asshole over here. ]

[avers]

[ his eyebrows lift just a fraction and he tilts his head. "little helpers"? what is this idiot talking about. if anything, he's the rookie. if he keeps talking like that he won't last much as part of Elkin's sheriff department for much longer. still, he doesn't offer a comment and instead takes another drag of the cigarette ]

And all I'm askin' is for people to stop hirin' idiot, but we can't always got what we want, innit?

[ this is his way of saying suck my dick ]

[ talking to this guy is like running against a stonewall, getting up and running at it again. fullspeed. ]

We can always hope?

[ by the way this conversation is going his hope is slowly fading but he's too stubborn to give up though. ]

Listen, it's not an easy time for her. Or for anyone. Besides, I doubt she knows much. If something weird was going on she would have told her father, I'm sure of it.

[ if this leads to Oliver acting like a dick on purpose Trent is going to strangle Ben, isn't he. well, good thing he doesn't need to know about this chat. ]

[ he's checking his watch while ben talks, like not giving any thought at all to what he's saying. he doesn't even look at him when he speaks, cutting him off so that his last words are drowned out by his; he's looking at the roof of the resort. ]

Mr. Vaughn, I'd advise you against tryin' to tell me how to do my job. Just do what I told you to.

[ conversation over, that's what he's trying to say. he won't wait for him to answer and instead starts moving to the resort ]

[ first he's rudely interrupted and then the guy is already walking away. ]

[ typical. stares after him. ]

Yeah, just let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

[ spoilers: he won't do shit. ]
