Fine now. I've been nursing it all day and now there's zero remnants of last night's overindulgence in my system. [ a+. she's been taking good care of herself despite just wanting to curl up into a ball and pout at sophie. ] Did you go back home and just crawl into bed or something?

[eternalboy]

Uh huh?

[ takes a sip of the water and watches her. for him it's still all there. ]

Sorry. I got a call from work. I wanted to stay.

[singlestrand]

I had to be here anyway. [ that is true. though she would have found an excuse even if she didn't have to be at work. she was so fortunate for him having to go work himself-- it made it easier. ] Not that it's been very busy.

[eternalboy]

I'd imagine people want to stay home in case the wind starts blowing cars over. [ glances out of the window as they talk. despite riding the motorcycle he doesn't appear too worried. the journey home will work out somehow, he's sure. ]

What are you doing to later? Do you close early? [ Hopeful. ]

[singlestrand]

[ the wind won't blow cars over. she blinks a few times at him. see, the problem with ben is not being able to tell if some of the stupid things he says are honestly that stupid or if he's exaggerating to be funny. ]

My shift ends in a couple of hours and then I'm hanging out with Sophie. [ i.e. not you. they just saw each other yesterday, is he really that needy? ]

[eternalboy]

[ will Sophie eat her out tho. ]

Alright. Maybe we can do something tomorrow. [ it should work out if she's even half as eager to see him as he is to see her. which he naturally thinks she is. ]

But hey, listen, there's something else I wanted to ask too.

[ wow. ]

Uh, yeah, sure. I work the morning shift Sunday, too. [ oh, no. she kind of just Looks at him. please don't ask her to be a girlfriend that would make this awkward for both of us. ]

... Yeah? What is it?

[ wow no. ]

Well, Sam, my roommate, said he saw you at Black Lodge where... things happened. He told me you got into a fight. [ watches her reaction. he didn't exactly want to bring it up because it didn't seem like such a big deal to him, but if the subject comes up later it would be weird to pretend he didn't know about it. ]

I know you seemed alright yesterday and today too, but are you? [ is this a Big Deal ]

[singlestrand]

[ wow sam, way to pry into things that aren't your business. talk about a nosy neighbor who isn't even her neighbor anymore. way to go, buddy. isabella crosses her arms over her chest. she's still looming next to the table, definitely not having a desire to sit down. especially not now. ]

Yeah, I'm fine. Just had a bit too much to drink. It happens.

[eternalboy]

[ oh don't go. the restaurant is empty. ]

Yeah it does. [ so it's not a big deal. leans back. Sam you worry too much that's why your face looks constantly sad. ] Lucky you weren't feeling that aggressive yesterday. Did they ban you from that bar?

[singlestrand]

It wasn't that big of a deal. I didn't get banned. [ she's a frequent customer. come on. harry wouldn't do that! ] Why does it matter to you?

[eternalboy]

Just thought it would be funny. And unexpected. Or do you mean the whole thing? [ drums his fingers on the table. ] Well I could turn it into a police matter. Maybe arrest you.

[ stops the drumming. ]

No, I just wanted to ask if you were okay. Really, we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to.

[singlestrand]

[ nothing about this conversation is funny. actually, it's borderlining on incredibly annoying. she had an altercation at a bar. sam surely told him more, but if he wants to know something then he shouldn't be so subtle. ]

I don't want to talk about it. [ isabella watches him, arms still crossed. ] It's done and over with and has nothing to do with you?

[eternalboy]

[ stepped on a landmine somewhere along the way apparently. he raises his brows and looks down. ]

Okay.

Something you need to sort out between yourselves.

[ shit maybe he was wrong about this after all. ]

[singlestrand]

Right. [ one of her hand moves to her hip so the other can gesture as she speaks. ] Between ourselves. You're talking about Noah, right? My ex? That's why you're prying into something that happened days ago, currently has little to do with my life, and you have absolutely no right asking about?

[ a pause. she laughs to herself. ] "If I'm alright." Yeah, okay. [ her hand drops to her side. ] Let me go check on your food. [ she's going to walk away now. ]

You broke a glass and caused a scene. There's more to it than your ex.

[ the food can burn for all he cares that's not why he came here. if she's leaving he's standing up. ]

Who I don't care about by the way. That's not why I brought it up. I like you and I wanted to know if there was something wrong. [ which there obviously is.... he can see it now. shi-et. ]

The appropriate thing to do would have been to leave it alone. [ in what world did ben think it was okay to bring up an incident that occurred several days ago over an ex-girlfriend the day after they just hooked up and slept together in a motel? especially when they barely knew each other outside of said hooking up. a drunk altercation at a bar isn't that farfetched and after last night he knows how she gets with alcohol in her system. besides, "something wrong" after a few days? please. he was prying into business that wasn't his own because sam fuelled it and now ben was slowly finding a place on her shitlist next to his dear roommate. ]

And maybe not bring it up, oh, where I work. Where you're now causing a scene. Thanks for that.

I was leaving it alone but then you made a big deal of it. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything.

[ prying into his motives for asking and whatnot. it was only a simple question with which he wanted to find out if she wanted to talk about it and maybe he could be there for her and you know the stuff you do when you like someone. ]

[ looks over his shoulder at the empty place, shakes his head and picks up his coat. ]

No, you shouldn't have. I think it's kind of taboo for the person someone is currently sleeping with to just casually ask about an ex where there is obviously bad blood.

[ there are people here. other waitresses. staff. who are probably listening in. just because there are no customers doesn't mean the place is empty. but this is good for her practically outed lesbian status. ]

What, are you leaving now? I put an order in for you.

[ he really does have food sitting back there. ]

[ slowly twirls a pen. ]

[ the ex wasn't the point. like he said. ]

I have to go back to work. You can bill me later.

[ he practically skipped work to come here anyway. ]

[ she's having a hard time seeing the reasoning in his reason for asking. probably because she was quite literally blindsided by noah earlier in the day. her reaction may have been different. ]

If that's what you want to do, then.

[ isabella looks away from him, holding her tongue. ]

There's two kids I'm supposed to find.

[ he doesn't want to deal with this right now. or ever. he's gonna go. ]

Yeah, probably not a good idea to be wasting your time with me, then.
